Inspiring Healthy Eating Habits

The Idea

GrowingGreat, a nonprofit school garden and nutrition education organization, is dedicated to inspiring kids and adults to adopt healthy eating habits. By combining classroom nutrition lessons, garden plantings and farm-to-school tastings we are increasing their chances of living a healthier life.

The Specifics

GrowingGreat currently trains 200+ parent volunteers to deliver interactive garden and nutrition curriculum to over 16,000 students in Los Angeles county, covering over 30 schools in 10 school districts. Our volunteers will oversee the upcoming Spring Harvest Party and Farmer’s Markets at each participating school. Produce planted in the fall will be harvested and prepared by kids for a Harvest Party Feast! Students will also organize a Farmer’s Market and sell produce to their parents, teachers and community members after school. Vegetables for sale are often priced very low since our focus is to give students and their families’ information about and access to healthy foods. $1,000 will help cover training and materials.
